Useful links to DC Government Services
The Government of the District of Columbia
The District of Columbia website has great information on just about everything you need from schools and DMV questions to libraries and government.
We are in DC’s Ward 3. Our Area Neighborhood Commission is ANC 3D
The Advisory Neighborhood Commissions consider a wide range of policies and programs affecting their neighborhoods, including traffic, parking, recreation, street improvements, liquor licenses, zoning, economic development, police protection, sanitation and trash collection, and the District’s annual budget. We are represented by Ward 3D-06 Commissioner Ann Heuer and ANC 3D-09 Commissioner Ann Haas (depending on exactly where your home is.) However, Ann Haas actually lives in our area so she is always a good bet, even if your home is not actually in her district. Read about the ANC, and get contact information for your commissioners at www.anc3d.org.
Schools and Libraries
See the schools link on the dc.gov site for information on DC Public Schools. Our area is in boundary for Woodrow Wilson Senior High School at Tenleytown, Rose Lee Hardy Middle School in Upper Georgetown, and the Key Elementary School in Palisades. Washingtonian Magazine and the Washington Post both have good links to school information. Private schools within a short walk from us include The Lab School, Georgetown Day Primary School, St. Patrick’s Day School, Our Lady of Victory, Washington International School (lower school), Georgetown University and George Washington University’s Mount Vernon Campus. We are served by the Palisades Branch of the DC Public Library system; the Georgetown Branch is also convenient. Both have parking.
Parks and Recreation
The Hardy Recreation Center and fields are in our area at Q Street NW and Foxhall Road. Go here for information.
We are surrounded by National Park lands, with Glover-Archbold Park on our east and north. Glover-Archbold is part of the Rock Creek Park system and offers great wooded hiking. Canal Road and the C&O Canal National Park mark the western edge of our neighborhood.
Palisades Community Association and Our Sister Citizens Associations
The Palisades Community Association, our sister organization serving the area along MacArthur Blvd from Georgetown University to the Maryland border, has a great website with lots of information about the area. Several parts of the FCCA area along MacArthur Boulevard are also in the area covered by the PCA; their newsletter is by annual membership only.
Other community associations nearby include the Burleith Citizens Association, Glover Park Citizens Association, and the Citizens Association of Georgetown.
